Poured from a growler into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a small head of white foam. The head has a good level of retension, fading slowly and leaving a good deal of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of a bready malt mixed with a good showing of tropical fruits of mango, tangerine, pineapple and papaya. Along with these aromas comes a strong presence of hops with lots of resinous pine and a good deal of grapefruit and herbal hop. Other lighter notes of apricot and peach as well as a touch of grain are there as well, rounding out the smell rather well.
Taste – The taste starts out with a bready malt mixed with a moderate showing of of the tropical fruits that were in the nose along with hints of caramel. At the same time there is a big showing of pine and herb right from the start. The hop flavors gain intensity as the taste moves forward, with the pine really amping it up. All the while the caramel and tropics fade a touch, and with a hint of peach and apricot and a bit of grain, one is left with a nice resinous and very balanced hop taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and chewiness with a middle of the road carbonation level. For the style and the tastes, the feel is pretty nice making for a rather easy sipper.
Overall – This is probably the best of the Boom’s. Very flavorful and well done. I would like to see this one become a regular.
