Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear orange amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading slowly over time and leaving tons of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is super strong of a banana smell mixed with a strong showing of tropical fruits of mango, pineapple, passionfruit, and tangerine. Along with these smells comes a little bit of orange and some graininess along with a bit of peach and apricot. Other smells of a light guava and some mustiness are in there as well, rounding it all out.
Taste – The taste begins with a crisp cracker and light bready malt flavor mixed with the fruits that were in the nose. Just like the nose, the banana is the strongest of the fruit, but is backed by lots of guava, passionfruit, and papaya, with some lighter notes of mango, tangerine, and pineapple. The fruit juice flavors initially get more intense, only to fad a touch as the taste moves toward the end. At the end of the flavor transition some pine and herb join in, adding a bit of a hop dimension, and with a touch of grass and hay, one is left with a very fruity, mild pale ale taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is moderate in terms of thickness and creaminess with a moderate carbonation level, both of which are good for the tastes and the style.
Overall – A decent, very fruit laden, pale ale with a big banana flavor. Fun to try.
