Been to Granite City a few times since they've opened, none by my own choice.
The Good: Service was excellent each time. The staff is friendly, personable, and genuinely excited to be there. The food, too, was great each visit as well. I've been there with large parties, and there was lots of plate sharing going on, so I've be able to sample quite a bit off the menu. All of it is good.
The Bad: I'm going to quote this from Granite City's website, regarding their brewing process:
Our Patented Brewing Process:
"Shortly before we opened our third store, we launched our patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient. This process, conceived and designed by Mr. Burdick, allows us to ship sweet liquid called wort, from our central brewing facility to individual stores. When this liquid reaches the stores, we begin the fermentation process and complete the brewing. We use Fermentus Interruptus at all of our Granite City Food & Brewery® locations"
Did you catch that? Granite City isn't a brewpub, it's an industrial-sized Mr. Beer kit. And it shows. I've had the chance to have six of their original brews and each is a thin, watery glass of "meh." If you must have one of theirs, stick to the Broad Axe stout or Batch 1000 DIPA. At there's some flavors rolling around in those ones.
They still expect you to pay $7 a glass, whether it's theirs or from another brewery, so get some Short's or Founders.
Overall: Staff is awesome, food is awesome, and their tap selection of local Michigan brews is your best bet.

First time going there this past weekend.
Wow. What a nice building we have here. Modern, clean... ample room for parking.. beautiful bar area... Perlick faucets..coolers and sinks ??? :) Thats awesome!
Now we went on a Sunday around noon.
We were invited to try the buffet... so we did.. and 2 of their beers. Total? 54$. :0
The food wasn't bad. Wasn't great either. Had noodles...chicken stuff.. prime rib slice... ceaser salad.. egg benedict.. Not too shabby but nothing to go yelling with a megaphone down the street promoting the place either.
Now heres where it gets ugly :
The HOUSE beers.
1st up was the Duke Pale Ale.
Its a darn shame. I bet they are corporate recipies that cannot be altered. This beer was like a malty water bomb. I don't know Granite City... all this potential... maybe you guys should Dry Hop the thing?? Or add some aroma hops? So lacking. I was floored with how watered down it was.
Then we had the Hefeweizen seasonal. Same. Wattery... lacking in any punch. But did have the clove and banana esters you'd expect in a Hefe.
To give them credit they do offer GUEST TAPS! Which is great. Because they need a lot of work modernizing their beers. Or do they? Location, Appearance = stunning. Service and food= O.K. Our particular waiter was not attentive... and walked by ever so carelessly. Now.. I do understand that service is very very hard to judge.. maybe that was a new guy...blah blah.. BUT dude... there was like 40 employees there.. CMON NOW!
Great selection of beers... nice atmosphere... will be back with a group maybe but not a good solo/date lunch kinda vibe. Sry guys.
Cheers
