The Tumi is brewed with 3,000 lbs of Yellow Mombin per 30 bbl batch. Yellow Mombins, also known as caja or hog plums, originate in the rainforests of Central and South America. The taste is vaguely tropical with hints of mango, banana, papaya, and pineapple.

Note: ABV may vary by release.

12oz can. Bottom stamp reads 'CANNED ON 09/01/21'.
Cloudy body with bigger residue chunks. Color is brownish, similar to a tea. Brief one finger yellow/tan head, which continues as a thin bubbly cap and ring. Leaves behind spots and trails of lacing.
Aroma is quite pungent, with tropical fruits such as papaya and pineapple.
Taste is sweet and tart, with tropical fruit flavors such as papaya, banana, pineapple, and some orange citrus. Quick tail off in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Dry finish. Good carbonation.
Strong in smell and taste, this brew employs the yellow mombin to full advantage. Higher ABV% is quite well hidden.

This is a very fruity beer. On a similar fruity level to sparkling cider. Goes down smooth, with a medium light carbonation. You could easily down a few of these without even trying. Overall a great fruity beer, and i would highly recommend. If your in to fruity wine, it would be a great crossover to the beer world.

Loved the level of tartness on this one and boy did it pack a punch. Try it if you get a chance. I will be buying another four pack.

Served in a snifter, on tap at 7 Monks in Grand Rapids.
A: This looks incredible, like a mimosa, it’s a hazy, opaque orange-ish, pink/peach color.
S: Wow this is tropical, mangoes, papaya, sugary, oranges, it really smells like fresh citrus fruits laying out in the open sun (but not rotting).
T: Very tropical, fruity, mangoes, oranges, lemons, with a tang of sour and bitterness
M: Full bodied, crisp, thick and fruity, kind of makes me think of Smooge.
O: I didn’t even know this had some rare Brazilian fruit in it, I just like to get sours off the tap and Urban Artifact is a tremendous brewery for avant-garde sours. This was delicious and will definitely seek it out again.

Never heard of yellow mombin fruit before, but have been looking forward to trying this one for a while! Pours a hazy yellow, smell of tropical fruit, lychee and passion fruit. Flavor is juicy, sweet with just the right amount of acidity to back up the sweetness. Rich fruit flavor in this beer, without it being too cloying. Alcohol is scarily well-hidden for 10%. I could literally chug this beer, and have another not even realizing it’s strength. UA always nails their high abv fruit tart ales, and this one is no different. Fantastic sour

12 ounce can, canned on 09/01/21. Served in an Urban Artifact chalice, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around a while. Decent amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells mostly like a mix of tropical fruits (which I'm guessing is the Yellow Mombin since I've never tried one before), along with a bit of doughy malt and vanilla. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of some lime and a creamy/custardy flavor if that makes sense. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and a bit creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. Sure doesn't seem like it's 10.1% ABV. I thought this was a good, unique tasting tart brew. Definitely worth picking up if you get the chance!

For all those of you out there who was anxiously awaiting a yellow mombin fruit sour, your wait is finally over! Here comes Urban Artifact to the rescue. Like many other beer lovers, the taste of passionfruit and apricot would largely go ignored if not put in a beer. Yellow mombin is the next in this short lineage.

The Tumi pours a pale, foggy and dense straw appearance with an initial spritz of carbonation before subsiding to stillness. With a pass of the nose, a tangy, tropical, citrus and winey scent takes hold. Juicy and plump on the tongue, the first sip is rife with taffy, marmalade and fruit tarte.

As the fruit awaken on the middle palate, the mombin fruit seems to favor other fruit flavors of orange, mango, apricot, guava and passionfruit yet with the juiciness of plum and cantaloup. As the underlying sourness offers its own fruity sourness, the session is rounded and balanced with lime, crabapple, white grape, lemon and gooseberry for a spicy, sour and fruity culmination of tropical sherbet with a nearly teeth-grinding succulent acidity.

Peppery, vinous and cidery to close, the beer finishes expectedly fruit and sour with a spicy twinge. Richer on the palate than usual for sour ale, a medium length finish of jam and piquant acidity lingers pleasantly on the tongue.

Midwest Fruit Tart brewed with yellow mombin fruit. Poured from a growler into an Urban Artifact Thoroughbred glass. The pour is bright orange and completely opaque. It looks like juice with a one-finger crown of foam on top. The nose can best be described as mostly mango with some banana and hints of orange and peach.

Medium body with a firm feel and a wonderful flavor. Having never had yellow mombin, I don't know what it tastes like, but this beer is slightly sour (a little less so than most of the Midwest Fruit Tarts made by the brewer), a little bit pithy and bitter, and wildly fruity. I get lots of mango, banana, orange, peach, and lemon. It tastes like a fruit smoothie of some kind. The strongest flavors hit you at mid-palate, where the sourness and bitterness seem to disappear for just a moment and the fruit takes over completely, making the beer taste like a mimosa. What a fantastic beer.

Yellow mombin is an unusual fruit that grows in Brazil. I spoke to the brewery representative and he said it is unlikely they will make this beer again because getting the fruit imported was a real hassle. It sat for a long time in customs while they got permission to pick it up and once they did get permission, they had to remove all the seeds before they were allowed to take it (so that officials knew they wouldn't try to cultivate it). If they do end up retiring this beer, I am very glad I got to try it.
