Spontaneous sour ale with cranberries. Poured from a corked and caged bottle into an Urban Artifact Thoroughbred tulip. The pour is a very pretty, clear red color - like light cranberry juice - and sports a very thin and short-lived crown of slightly pink foam. The nose is that of a typical wild ale. I get notes of fresh lemon, apple cider vinegar, cranberry, and slight hints of oak and musty funk.
Medium-light body with a delicate feel. Up front I am overwhelmed with the same sour flavors promised by the nose. This is no "Midwest Fruit Tart" - this is a full-on American WIld Ale. Near mid-palate, the sharp acidity subsides a bit and I get a musty, funky flavor that dominates through the finish. Lingering flavors of cranberry, lemon, oak, and vinegar remain, along with that mysterious funky, musty flavor.
Definitely one of the least drinkable beers I have had from this brewer, but I suppose that is the point. It is meant to be a complex sipper, not a crusher. Nevertheless, I don't think I would buy this again. I simply didn't enjoy it all that much.
