This debut release in our new line of beers contains 600 lbs of freeze-dried red raspberries and 400 lbs of freeze-dried blackberries per 1,000 gallon batch. This is the equivalent of roughly 11,000 lbs of fruit when fresh!

Interesting fruited sour. Very berry.
L: dark purple
S: berries and booze
T: a little like wine, not much like beer but very flavorful. Berries and more berries. Finishes sour.
F: medium to heavy bodied. Low carbonation
O: actually I really enjoyed it. Definitely a different experience. I smelled more of the 15% ABV more than tasted.

8 fl oz can
Served in a sour glass

This beer pours a deep, deep shade of purple. Light does not penetrate. It has no head. Reminiscent of prune juice.

Intense berry aroma. Vinous notes.

A metric shit ton of berry flavor. With this much fruit and this high of abv the comparisons to wine are numerous. It has wine character.

Medium bodied with a thicker mouthfeel

If you want tremendous aroma and flavor in a small package then this is the beer for you. HUGE berry aroma and flavor. The 15% abv is hidden pretty well, but I feel the abv creeping up on me. Definitely a sipper.

Ordered from Tavour, chilled, and poured into an 8 ounce chalice.

Look: Deep purple, red grape color with no head, although you can see carbonation along the edges of the glass.
Smell: Light earthy berry up front, followed by some light vinegar notes.
Taste: Sour berry up front, serious tannins like a spoiled church wine. Blackberry and raspberry that hangs a while, then sour vinegar, a little booze and no bitterness.
Feel: Medium to full feel, light tickle of carbonation, serious tannins with major drying like a wine (but not a good wine).

Overall it is a weird beer. This is more like wine (like mad dog 20/20 or something). The vinegar note is not pleasant and even though this was a pricey beer we threw it out.

Cheers!

8 ounce can, canned on 03/12/21. Served in an Urban Artifact chalice, the beer pours a dark reddish/purple color with a small pink head that fizzled away quickly. Pretty much no lacing at all. I like the aroma, the brew smells mostly like blackberries and raspberries, dark berry jam, grape skins, red grapes/wine and earthiness. Taste pretty much follows the aroma, but with the addition of some tart berries and a slight vinegary flavor. Good amount of sweet and tartness, but I think it's more tart than sweet, and wine-like at the same time. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's smooth and a bit slick with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. Sure doesn't seem like it's 15% ABV. I thought this was a good tart brew, definitely worth trying if you get the chance to.

With copious amount of freeze dried fruit and a beer that's not only concentrated in its blackberry and raspberry character, but also its alcohol content, if this is what astronauts get to drink, then beam me up Scotty!

Caught somewhere between purple and mauve, the inaugural edition of Astronaut Food show off its berry color with the depth of robust red wine. While virtually no foam, the beer's still appearance only reinforces this red wine appearance. As a spicy, puckering and fruity scent rolls off of the rim, the nose is redolent with cabernet, stone fruit, dark berry, cider and a twinge of red wine vinegar. Scantly sweet, a modest maltiness highlights the beer's initial fruit rollup, vinous sweetness and taffy-like flavors early in taste.

A lessoning of sweetness happens rapidly on the middle palate as the sour booziness sets in. The robust flavor of raspberry and blackberry share that of blueberry, plum, blackcurrant and red grape. Highly condensed in its taste, there's a savory branch-ripened character that comes with the natural fruit flavors with nearly prune and raisin-like proportions. Supremely sour and making no attempt to hide its boozy effects, the fruit beer finishes jaw-piercingly sour, succulent and balanced with a strong peppery spice.

Medium bodied for sour ale, the anticipation of alcoholic jam isn't there. Instead, the beer treads on the more robust red wine character with a finish that simmers on the throat with peppery wine-like warmth. A medium length aftertaste of berry seed, skin and stem applies a spice that extends well beyond the fruit. Surprisingly sour and dryish, this beer is simply insane!
