Astronaut Food is the most expensive alcoholic beverage in the world to produce, due to the massive quantities of freeze-dried fruit used in the process.
Freeze-dried fruit is different than the fresh fruits we use in our other Fruit Tarts. The freeze-drying process removed the water inherent in the cell walls, and concentrates the fruit's natural flavors, compounds, and sugars. The result is a flavor far more intense than any other fruit beverage. At 15% ABV, Astronaut Food drinks like a fine wine, pairs fantastically with any sweet or savory desserts or sipped on its own.
There are approximately 16 strawberries per can, or 64 whole strawberries in a 4-pack of Astronaut Food.

With copious amount of freeze dried fruit and a beer that's not only concentrated in its rife and ripe berry character, but also its alcohol content, if this series of beers are what astronauts get to drink, then beam me up Scotty!
Caught in a rusty rouge, winey austere, the Strawberry edition of Astronaut Food shows off its ruddy berry depth of color. While virtually no foam, the beer's calm appearance only reinforces this rosé wine austere. As a spicy, puckering and fruity scent rolls off of the rim, the nose is redolent with fortified wine wine, stone fruit, red berry, cider and a serious little jolt of vinous spice. Moderately sweet, a light coat of cereal grain sweetness highlights the beer's initial fruit rollup and taffy-like flavors early and often in taste.
A recession of sweetness happens steadily on the middle palate as the sour booziness starts to grip the tastebuds. The robust flavor of strawberry share attributes of cherry, plum, redcurrant, raspberry and red grape. Highly condensed in its taste, there's a savory branch-dried character that comes with the natural fruit flavors with a nearly prune and sultan-like proportion. Supremely sour and making no attempt to hide its boozy effects, the fruit beer finishes jaw-tighteningly sour, succulent and balanced with a strong vinous and peppery spice.
Medium bodied for sour ale, the anticipation of alcoholic jam is present but not overwhelming. Instead, the beer treads on the more tangy red wine character with a finish that simmers on the throat with peppery grappa-like warmth. A medium length aftertaste of berry skins and pleasantly balancing tannins for a spice that extends well beyond the fruit. Surprisingly sour and dryish, this beer is once again out of this world.
