Waking up the tastebuds with an ale that’s suited best for the breakfast table, the assay and tangy flavors of berry are wrapped in maple for a sweet and sour start to the day.
Deep and rusty mauve, Cabriole struggles to mount any froth, but it easily entices the senses with a popping acidic fruit scent and a soothing savory scent of maple syrup. With the promise of dark fruit, citrus and cider, the nose soon turns over the first sip to sultry maple syrup, light pastry and candied malt character.
The flavors darken and condense on the middle palate as the maple sweetness absorbs into the fruit for the character of cobbler, pie filling and dried fruit. Seemingly of fig, date and raisin, the taste seems to take on a light sherry-like taste before heading into a decidedly sour finish of lime, lemon, green apple and sour berry.
Fuller for sour ale, but deceptively light and refreshing overall, the ale proves that there’s a sour ale for every date on the calendar.
