Pours a very dark cheery wood type with a little tan head that slowly fades. Little lacing remains on the glass as you drink. Smell is of syrup and heavy malts. Little to much for me, the taste is the same, tastes like syrup with hops. Not my style but can understand why people like it, to strong though. Feels very full and powerful in the mouth. I could not drink more than one of these, forced to just finish one. Not the Scotch Ale I expected.

Oh man here is a blast from back in the ol' college days. For whatever reason, there's like 95 breweries with a Tilted Kilt beer, it must have been in use before trademark or something complicated over the casual beer nerd's head trying to play intellectual property lawyer.

Anyways, it poured a chestnut brown color, beige head in the 2/3" range, dense and good retention. Aroma was that peat moss thing and red ale malt vibrations.

Taste was a lighter than usual affair for a scotch ale, more sessionable than say McEwan's (the other scotch ale we were drinking regularly in college). More of a blend of a scotch, brown and red ale at times. Which is fine. Slight dark fruit bitterness although it is pretty light. I dunno, you have to parse this beer through its historic relativism in the 90s. Even a hint of smoke in the mouthfeel. It was a decent beer with no off flavors but hardly what you would recommend to someone looking for a hearty big scotch ale.

Aah, another scottish style ale. I actually like American versions of Scottish style ales more than the ones from Scotland....

Okay, this one pours transparent almost black dark mahagony color. There is minimal foam, with hardly a ring, no lacing that sticks, but it does have foam draining down the side.

Smells nice and malty. maybe a little alcoholic.

Taste is a bit harsh in a way I can't quite describe. it is not pepper, but it is something I don't care for which pierces through the taste. Otherwise it is nice and malty with a slight hop balance.

The mouthfeel seems a bit watery. Not creamy. Fizzy up front, and it dissipates to souer lemon at the back of the throat.

The body is a bit thin too.

The finish is clean, no bitter aftertaste.

This is not my favorite Scottish style ale. I would definitely pick this over any mass produced beer though.

Pours from the stubby brown bottle a deep brown with red notes coming out when the light strikes. Not much head to speak of here. Caramel malt invades my nose along with raisins and dark fruits. Nice...but subdued.

First sip is upfront with caramel sweetness mixing with plums, raisins. A bit of a vinous flavor is there as well...almost red wine..perplexing. The wine flavor really comes through on the back of the palate.

Mouthfeel is good with a pretty full body and not too much carbonation. Drinkability is not too good as I find this a bit boring and off for the style. Not one I'd come back to...but worth the experince to try once.

Pours up dark with a deep red tint when held to light. A heavy pour generated no foam. Thick in consistancy. Smell was sweet and syrupy with hint of alcohol. Taste isn't powerful with molasses note and has a lingering alcohol finish. A bit of a dissapointment.

12 oz. bottle from spring 2004. Pours a ruby brown color with a thin head. Smells of sweet smoked malts, very scotch whiskey-ish.Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Taste is a weak smoked malt sweetness with a bitter red wine flavor to finish.
Not a bad beer , but not a good scotch style.

poured out a nice dark chestnut colour, with an tan head, which was very small and disappeared incredibly quickly. some rough carbonation at the top of the beer for a few moments, which released an awful lot of aroma.

the smell is incredibly sweet and malty. "brewed with 7 varieties of malt" would explain this. also, there is a strong smell of rubbing alcohol, which, once i noticed it, disturbed me a bit.

taste is very sweet, and there is that fragrance of rubbing alcohol that is peculiar, and doesn't translate to an ethanol flavour. the carbonation is nice, and the beer is somewhat creamy-ish, but, too thin, i think, for the colour and sweetness. the finish is quick and sweet, with a bit of plum or fig coming through.

this is an alright beer, but, the off smell and overt sweetness don't make me want to drink it again anytime soon. i'd say, worth a try.

This beer was what I expected from a scotish ale, however it was nothing special. It pored a nice dark color similar to a porter, however the carbonation was almost non-existant, however what little head I was able to get out of it quickly dissapeared. The smell was of all malt with a musty scent. The mouthfeel was full and robust with a malty sweetness. The taste was very sweet, and unless you really like scottish ales this is a one timer, good but not my cup of tea to say the least.

After looking up and down theis kilt label, no freshness date info but a 6.3% ABV indication.

Pours into me pilsner with a dark clear russet color that matches the brown bottle and a ring of off white lace around the top edge. No carbonation to speak of here.

Caramel & syrup malt scents dominate the nose.

A big rootbeer blast hits me first, with a sharp bitter metallic and malts lasting aftertaste. Earthy wood notes and cloying sweetness.

This beer has serious thick & syrupy body. Almost like a "needs a knife & fork" body.

PYRAMID Tilted Kilt hits a low mark in the drinkability department. I could not drink another one.

Last swigs: Full bodied filling root beer & earthy malty 6.3 %'er with a lingering maple syrup aftertaste. This one almost turned into a drainpour as it warmed. Whew! This is one of the most overall malty beers I have ever had.

Beer is good. (even when it's harsh) Happy beering.

Had lunch with a friend and had a sampling of this on-tap.
The appearance is a dark ruby brown color. It did not have much of a head despite the quick service we had. The smell was of sweet malts and the taste was very much the same, extremely sweet. The mouthfeel was somewhat full and the carbonation made it lively. The overall drinkability was good but a bit too sweet for this style of beer.

Dark ruby brown color with a medium light tan head. Thin and quick lacing. The aroma is smoky malt and caramel. Medium-bodied with a big malt profile, and very little else in the flavor aside from a hint of caramel. The finish is sweet and lasting. Kind of a one-trick pony with the malt but it is smooth and drinkable.

Pours dark brown in color with auburn highlights. Tight creamy white head. Aroma consists of chocolate malt, cocoa and grape skins. Mouthfeel is thin-bodied and watery. Taste seems so "off" for a Scotch ale that it's hard to describe. A grape juice-like fruitiness emerges initially. Traditional maltiness and peat are nowhere to be find in this offering. Overly sweet with some light nuttiness. Finish border on dry but is also way to cloying. Disappointing for Scotch ale, to say the least.

Dark chestnut color, creamy orangish head that settles in comfortable at 1/4 of an inch. Sparse drip laces, liquid coating. Sweet malty smell, deep with some sense of oaky, woody aromatics. Flavor is similar, way tipped toaward the malt end. Sweet, light bits of dates, pears. A cinnamon leavening to the back flavor, hopping can be picked out but is very slight. Body is medium, lightly sticky. Perhaps just a touch of peaty smokiness comes out mid mouth to close, not a big mark in the profile. Light alcoholoc sense. Not bad...

Pours opaque mahogany from a 12 ounce bottle purchased at the North Coast Co-op in Arcata, California. The head is close to an inch tall, fuzzy white, and falls fast leaving no lace but a gray, thin film on the brew's surface.

Nose is up-front sweet and bready, subtle spicy notes follow -- licorice, black pepper -- and the finish is a spray of prune juice.

Taste opens with a bitter-sweet nudge on the tip of my palate, it flows back opening up some peppery and sweet fruity (dark dried fruit, take your pick) notes, closing on a raspy bitterness that holds on through the finish.

Mouthfeel is creamy, a little sticky on the finish, and very carbonated (much like your average soda pop).

Not earth shattering -- enjoyable and drinkable nevertheless.
