A clean, crisp lager with a reddish hue. This beer is lightly hopped to bring out the pilsner and rye malts. It is refreshing enough for a hot summer day, yet bold enough to be enjoyed year round.

If you search old maps of Minneapolis prior to 1900 you may notice a large and shallow lake named Lake Sandy. This small lake is noted and located just west of Central Avenue along what is now St. Anthony Parkway. At one point in Minneapolis, this was the only lake in the cities park with an ice rink, warming house, and concession stand. Over the years, the lake has disappeared off of maps and can be hard to locate in our well-developed part of town.

I love ryes. This is barely a rye. As soon as I opened the bottle and smelled bananas, I knew this was something other than a rye... yet still maybe a Lager. They should have named it something different. I hate to give bad reviews, but Lake Sandy is not what they say it is. Try again. If you like Simpler Times Lager then you'll probably be able to finish the bottle.

Never even heard of this new local when the brilliant marketing (they put rye on the label!) reached out & grabbed me. 750ML bottle split with my wife, who has already rendered a lightning-quick verdict.

The pour is light yellow. Very, very light sweet grain on the nose. Close to invisible.

Lake Sandy continues an unpleasant trend of new breweries struggling with their bottling runs. The rye is here if you concentrate really hard & use a good microscope, mild citrus, & honestly, I can’t even taste the yeast. What does come through is strong waft of sweetness - not malt sweetness, but the kind that has faint buttery echoes. Combined with the other ’ingredients’ being so lacking, there’s been a clear brewing failure somewhere along the line.

I’m not going to finish this. I love rye. Put it on the label & then taunt me with little to no rye taste? As it warms this goes from slightly unpleasant to undrinkable. Another bad bottle from a new brewery. I won’t be revisiting their glass for quite some time.

L: Pours yellow gold with a thin white foam collar that provides light lace. S: Spicy malt aromas, light grains, faint hops. T: Spicy rye and light malt flavors finish with a light hop accent. F: Medium light body, medium high carbonation. O: A refreshing lager with some flavor.
