a sturdy ipa brewed with local coffee. this is a trend i can really get behind. there is some natural synergy between hops and coffee, heck, the local coffee shop by my house even dry hops their cold brew (its excellent)! This makes sense, its just a matter of dialing it in right and finding the right strains with the right beans and the right processes. this is getting pretty close, although i think the base ipa is a little more malty than it should be to really showcase the relationship between the hops and the coffee. i see it being added for balancing sweetness, body, and a bready medium, but for me, its a distraction from the dynamic i want to be in the front. its not way off though, and the chocolatey coffee and the bitter piney hops are still clearly on display here. i like the bitter being from the coffee as much as the hops, and i like the intense aroma both provide, its awesome. the coffee is smooth and round and sort of delicate in the sense thats its not overly roasted or anything. i think with a few tweaks this could be one of the better coffee added hoppy beers around, hopefully it keeps evolving. i liked it a lot as is though too, the hops and coffee together are excellent here, just need to lighten it up a bit...
