Just back from visiting the brewery/taproom. A fine space they have here. And friendly knowledgeable folks behind the bar. Tasted several fine ales (but not their Ginger Beer which is becoming popular) and took home a growler of the fine Signature IPA.
Easthampton, where New City is brewed, won the gold medal for best-tasting water in the United States this year. The deep underground Barnes Aquifer needs no treatment before slaking this community's thirst. The breweries (3 in this town!) brag on that, and rightly so. Burton On The Hamp?
But it takes more than fine water to brew great beer. Growler fresh from the brewery poured into a New City 12oz pilsner glass. Unfiltered, hazy, orangy color. Takes a sniff... ooh, one of those aromatic dry-hopped wonders. And a sip... yeah, a unique kind of hoppage for me anyways. Equinox says their website. Maris Otter for malt, which is famous in single-malt scotch. As my glass is half full.... an excellent brew. Yeah, if this was available in eastern Massachusetts, it would be a staple for me.
