On draft - Black pour with a big creamy brown foam head, dark and roasted malt notes of char, licorice, baking chocolate, coffee, dark caramel, molasses, brown sugars, toffee, hint of dark fruits and some earthy hops

Canned 2023/11/22
Pours a huge frothy creamy semi dense and rocky 3 finger brownish head with moderate retention, sticky lacing, dark mahogany brownish to black color

Nose starts with some dark chocolate, mild baking spices, hint of roast and coffee, mild caramel, plenty of biscuity toasted grains and some wafer cookie getting a little fudgey later

Taste brings more rich semi sweet dark chocolate, cocoa, into a hint of smoky roast and coffee, a bit more smoke as it warms, burnt caramel, more baking spices with a very faint anise, burnt cookies, fair bitterness with a bit of a spicy hop on the back end as well as bitterness from the roasted malts, a flash of alcohol warmth on the finish with a semi sweet finish, lingering spicy hops and mild roasted charred spice bitterness

Mouth is fuller bod, not too rich, a bit creamy, med to a bit higher frothy carb, faint warming alcohol

Overall not bad, a bit too much on the burnt bitter mild acrid note and spicy hop combination, but otherwise pretty good

Canned 2/23/23. A gift from a friend who traveled around New England this summer. Poured at 55°. Two fingers of tight tan head with a few rocks; ok cap retention; thin ring; spots of lace; black body with ruby highlights. Sweet caramel; fruity odd fusel aroma. Taste follows with mild bitter roast; solvent like taste as beer warms. Light body; watery feel; moderate minus carbonation; mild warming in mouth at only 7.3% abv. Overall, I don’t like; mild bitter roast linger and fusel aftertaste.

Really satisfying porter right here. Lots of roasted malt and that's pretty much it. There may be hints of cocoa powder or suggestions of coffee plus a tang of dark sourdough bread, but this is definitely a roasted malt showcase. And a darn good one.

Dark brown color where no light passes. Beige head which settles to rim bubbles and leaves a couple of streaks on the glass.

Graham crackers and semisweet chocolate dominate the smell.

Dryer taste than the smell. There's a touch of Cafe au Lait to the flavor. Light powdered cocoa. Appropriate body and a lighter carbonation level. There's bit of black cherry to the finish. Shorter aftertaste.

Midnight black body with a fat finger of brown foam. Very robust porter with aggressive roast aromas, has hints of char, meat, baker's chocolate and a kiss of grain. Taste is much the same, chocolate is more bittersweet, char steps up, earth emerges, but as it warms it has a slight aftertaste of gasoline which distracts a bit. Feel is chewy, roasted, and robust, not too viscous but puts hair on your chest kind of beer.
