Smell – Blood orange, hop resin, eucalyptus, caramel, apricot jam. Sweet and a hint of that hoppy funk.
Appearance – Pours headless. Dark maroon and clear. Little effervescence. Medium lacing. Good colour, just a little flat.
Taste – Starts with a big hoppy hit. Grapefruit bitters, orange juice, and a hint of rainforest funk. A hint of biscuit malt balances out some of the bitterness, but it’s subtle. Actually more bitter than malt though, and a really rich dark citrus flavour.
Mouthfeel – A slight tingle, good oil, and light cream. A rich brew and fairly bitter – not the most sessionable ale, but still good to be enjoyed slow.
Overall – Big flavour, if not a little unbalanced towards the bitter side. Fairly rich.
