Appearance – Pours an opaque walnut/black, a healthy hazelnut 3 finger head which dissipates to a thin film, and light lacing.
Smell – Chocolate, butterscotch, and honeycomb ice-cream on steroids. A hint of cheesecake and the roasted digestive biscuit base.
Taste – Follows the nose but a bit more subtlety. Has that good milk stout base, a healthy dose of lactose, and subtle hints of honey, caramel, butterscotch, and Nutella. The aftertaste has a sticky fudge goodness to it. This one takes it up a notch and adds a good bit of extra alcohol, coming in through the middle of the sip as a nice rich dose of cherry brandy.
Mouthfeel – Mild effervescence, velvety richness, plenty of cream, slight dryness to finish. Luxurious, and a highly drinkable dessert stout. Goes down way too easily for the strength. Maybe a bit more oil would have been nice.
Overall – The golden standard in dessert stout goes up a notch.
