In the early morning light, houses nestled in the hills around Little Kaiteriteri Beach glow bright gold. A short drive north of Riwaka, both a place in New Zealand’s south island and the name of the fragrant hop featured in this single-hopped Pale Ale, Kaiteriteri’s shores were lapped by waves reduced to a mere whisper, as if they too enjoyed early morning peace and quiet.

Aroma & Flavour: Powerful resinous notes and grapefruit zest give way to passion fruit and tangy rhubarb
Body: Light but with a smooth, juicy profile, leading to a short finish
Aftertaste: Resinous notes linger alongside a note of light, juicy passion fruit

Cloudy, deep gold; thick white head; good cap retention; solid ring and thin soapy lacing. Strong skunky onion hop nose. Grapefruit rind, passion fruit, overripe mango; lite malt base; onion and sweet lychee finish. Medium lite body verging on watery; medium carbonation; no astringency. Flavors like nose are off-putting; strong skunky fruit/hop flavor is overpowering and difficult to enjoy.

Got this one in a trade with DoctorZombies

Pours a pretty golden color with a two inches head fading fast. Very opaque.

On the nose, strong flavor and notes of resinous, grapefruit and passion fruit.

The palate following the nose, heavy notes of grapefruit and an overwhelming resinous taste to it.

Overall, a very good Pale ale and Cloudwater has yet to disappoint me. I would totally sip again on this if given the chance.

Cheers!

Pours a hazy, golden amber, peach coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and slightly resinous, citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, papaya, and something else that's difficult to pin down. Taste is a great balance of light, biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hop notes of grapefruit, tangerine and papaya, as well as lighter gooseberry, perhaps a hint of melon and a distinct, unique note reminiscent of kumquat, with just a hint of pine. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some grapefruit, kumquat and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.

Quite a unique Pale Ale with a distinct and unusual flavor profile due to the Riwaka hops used. Amongst the more common citrus and tropical notes there's a unique "kumquat" note and some lightly acidic gooseberry, as well as some mild spice and pine giving a nice kick to this in the aftertaste. While it's not quite in your face, there's a very satisfying softness to the flavor profile here, with a surprising body and mouthfeel for such a low-ABV brew. A fantastic Pale Ale.

CAN
Peach and dank nose with maybe some pink peppercorn; tangerine, apricot, blonde pine, yellow melon rind, and passionfruit; light salty, and crisp.

4 x 5

Riwaka

Interesting hop: there’s a bit of olde timey Euro spice to it. But even for an APA, this is thin + lightly hopped. CW can hit harder than this.

Pours a hazy orange with soft, fluffy head.

Smell is crisp and citrusy with notes of grass and nectarine.

Taste is crisp and juicy with notes of citrus, nectarine, honeydew melon and a soft, well rounded bitterness. Very refreshing and hoppy.

Mouthfeel is thin to medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a terrific pale ale, hoppy and balanced.
