Collaboration with Salt Beer Factory
One of two beers brewed to mark the departure of our brewer Jake, as he embarks on a tour of Europe in a coffee van. This Pale Ale brewed with 100% Munich malt is a collaboration with SALT head brewer Colin Stronge, who was Jake's partner-in-crime when the pair worked together at Buxton. It combines a rich, subtly sweet malt character with a bright, zesty hop profile.

Pours a cloudy, deep amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity, bready, slightly caramelly malt and hoppy citrus and berry notes of grapefruit, blackberry and redcurrant, with a hint of peppery spice coming through as well. Taste is a good balance of slightly sweet biscuity, bready, caramel malt and quite herbal, bitter hops, with notes of citrus and red berries: grapefruit, redcurrant, blackberry, as well as just a hint of pine and peppery spice. Finishes with a medium/strong herbaceous bitterness and some grapefruit and blackberry lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and carbonation.
Quite a nice Pale Ale with a strong malt presence and an interesting, quite herbal and spicy hop profile that has strong red berry accents as well as some citrus and pine. I would just love to know which hops were used here, possibly Callista, which is actually quite a nice German variety. In any case, this makes for a rather enjoyable APA, with quite an expressive flavor profile for the low ABV.
