When the last of the bines have been harvested, the cables that held the weight of many bines are left punctuated by tufts of twine. Before our final night in Upper Moutere, the same wires held decorative lights to both illuminate and charm. Pilsner, though ubiquitous and often overlooked, provides us space to showcase subtle hop varietals, in a style perfect for punctuating more assertive beers with a bright, light, but nonetheless charming profile.

Pours a fairly clear yellow with firm, fluffy head.

Smell is clean and crisp and fairly light. Floral notes with hints of citrus and wheat dough.

Taste is clean and crisp with light crackeriness and floral notes. Notes of citrus, asmine, green tea and some herbs with a soft bitterness. Easy to drink and very refreshing.

Mouthfeel is medium, slightly creamy and well carbonated.

Overall a very nice, hoppy modern pilsner.

Pours an almost clear, pale golden coloration with a medium, frothy head. Smells of doughy, biscuity, very slightly grainy malt and hoppy notes of citrus and gooseberry. Taste is a great balance of doughy, biscuity, very slightly grainy malt and subtle but distinct hops, with notes of citrus and gooseberry, as well as some herbal accents and just a hint of black pepper. Finishes with a light bitterness and some citrus and black pepper lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Quite a nice, crisp, dry and hoppy Pilsner with a great balance of malt and hops, as well as equally subtle sweetness and bitterness. Perhaps a bit too hoppy for purists, but those light citrus and gooseberry notes actually go quite well with the more herbal and peppery qualities of this.
