Crop Year 2019 series #14: Strata Single Hop IPA
One of the newest hops on our contracts, Strata delivers a unique aroma combination that wouldn’t be out of place at a tropical fruit juice bar in Amsterdam.
It’ll add depth and character in the mix with other hops, but it stands proud in this single hopped IPA. Take a moment to inhale properly, and alter your experience one sip at a time.

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and intense and rather juicy passion fruit, with just a hint of herbal dankness coming through. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and tropical/citrus hops, with an incredibly vibrant and juicy passion fruit presence as well as lighter, zesty grapefruit and some herbal and almost spicy dankness. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some passion fruit and dank notes lingering in the aftertaste. Soft, pillowy mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I think this showcases Strata beautifully, with an incredibly vibrant passion fruit note and distinct, herbal dankness. While it may seem just a tad one-dimensional, I think there's actually a great balance of fruity, dank, sweet and bitter notes going on here. Fantastic, soft and pilllowy mouthfeel as well.
