NZ Hopped DIPA.

A long walk in the northwestern countryside makes for a satisfying respite from city lockdown life. Along the way, an obstacle with a curious charm. Both wondering what the other was about to do next...

440ml can. A marmalade DIPA. Plenty of caramelised fruit and resin. There’s also a delicate floral and heather honey element that balances the heady 8%. Superb.

Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity malt and stone fruit/berry/tropical hops, with notes of peach, papaya and gooseberries, as well as some herbal hints. Taste is an excellent balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and fruity, bitter, herbal and slightly spicy and resinous hops, with stone fruit, berry, tropical and citrus notes of peach, papaya, gooseberry, white grape and grapefruit, as well as hints of peppery spice and pine resin. Finishes rather dry, with a medium bitterness and some peach, papaya and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This feels like a bit of a cross between a West Coast and Brut IPA with its dry and bitter character as well as dominant stone fruit and berry notes complemented by lighter citrus and tropical accents. Very well balanced, with a light sweetness coming through initially, but finishing rather dry and bitter, with some herbal, spicy and resinous accents acting as a great counterpoint to the fruity character. Quite a complex, very well balanced Double IPA with a great richness of character and very expressive hop aromatics showcasing the NZ hops beautifully.

Pours a semi clear amber wit fine, soft ead.

Smell is fruity, juicy andcrisp. Notes of citrus, melon, gooseberries and an herbal hint.

Taste s fruity and juicy, intense but still soft. Notes of citrus, gooseberries, melon and some herbal and peppery hints. Soft bitterness with some caramel sweetness. Very clean with impeccable balance.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft, pillowy and well carbonated.

Overall, another DIPA from Cloudwater that manages to be powerfeul but subtle at the same time.
