Collaboration with Unity Brewing Co.
Togetherness sits at the heart of everything our friends from Unity, in Southampton, do. So, in a collaboration between North and South, we also decided to merge East and West Coast, creating an IPA that draws on both approaches to hop-forward beer. Featuring hand selected Simcoe and Loral, it’s highly aromatic, balancing tropical fruit and pithy navel orange flavours with a dry finish and layered bitterness.

Pours a pretty clear yellow with soft, fluffy head.
Smell is fruity and floral with notes of citrus, peach and pine and some hints of pineapple.
Taste is fruity and floral with a solid bitterness and notes of grapefruit, pine, wood and a hint of yeast.
Mouthfeel is medium, soft and pillowy with good carbonation.
Overall, a very nice IPA that's kinda west coast but not quite.

Pours a cloudy, golden amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with some floral accents as well. Taste is a great balance of biscuity malt and fruity, bitter, resinous and slightly floral and herbal hops, with strong citrus and lighter tropical notes of grapefruit, orange rind and mango, as well as some pine also coming through. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While I'm not a huge fan of Loral hops at all, they didn't bother me too much here, not appearing overly floral, while adding some quite bitter and somewhat herbal, weedy notes. Thankfully, the Simcoe really is the star of the show here, coming through very distinctly and wonderfully bringing those citrus and pine notes to the table, with some tropical accents as well, while it probably contributes to that earthy, herbal and bitter feel of this as well. Overall, this makes for a very enjoyable, West Coast'ish IPA that's a welcome change from the endless hazies and a joy to drink despite the Loral hops.

440ml can from Cloudwater Online Shop (£4.13):
Translucent amber, a few bubbles rise to the surface but it looks quite still; there's a thin, foamy white head on top that holds well & sits about a quarter cm tall. It's subdued on the nose with some oily hops & mango, touches of pine bitterness to then dank, slightly tropical notes to finish. It's very bitter & astringent with oily pine hops dominating alongside touches of apricot & citrus. It's resinous tasting & surprisingly well carbonated based on the initial look of the beer; it's very dank & dry with a lingering bitter finish.
