Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/stone fruit/berry hops, with notes of mango, grapefruit, peach and gooseberry, as well as just a hint of peppery spice. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly herbal, floral, spicy and resinous hops, with tropical, citrus, stone fruit and berry notes of mango, pineapple, grapefruit, orange, peach and gooseberry, as well as just a hint of pine and peppery spice. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some mango, grapefruit, gosseberry and peppery spice lingering in the aftertaste. Soft pillowy mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Just like with the original Cloudwater IPA, I think that this is one of the best IPAs that I've ever had. The sheer spectrum and depth of the hoppy notes is absolutely amazing here and yet so well balanced that everything works together perfectly. While I would say that it's very much a New England IPA at heart, there are hints of a West Coast IPA to this as well, it is pretty much the culmination of that NE/WCIPA style that Cloudwater have pioneered and develeoped to perfection here. It's been quite a while since I've had the original version of this, so making comparisons is a bit difficult for me, but from notes and my hazy memory, this evolution seems a bit more floral, spicy and heavier on the berry notes.
