Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity malt and grassy, tropical hops, with notes of mango and papaya. Taste is a good balance of biscuity malt and grassy, fruity, slightly resinous hops, with tropical and lighter citrus notes of mango, papaya and lime peel, as well as hints of weedy grass and pine. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some mango, papaya and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This was still surprisingly drinkable at 18 weeks old and 6 weeks past the "fresh by" recommendation, but you really can tell its age by the faded hops in this, which are just not really popping anymore. The aroma is still very nice and there are some good tropical accents to this, but it just doesn't feel all that bright and juicy anymore, with a certain, light chalkiness also coming through, although age certainly hasn't diminished the great body and mouthfeel for this. Overall, this still makes for a pretty enjoyable New England IPA that was probably fantastic when it was fresh, judging by its current state. I have adjusted my score slightly upwards to make up for its age.
