It's fair to say that we have a bit of a thing for hops, and so do our friends from Highland Park Brewery in Los Angeles. So, for our first collaboration, we decided to brew an all-Strata DIPA simultaneously at both locations, using the same recipe bar one key change - each brewery used their own hand selected hops. Ours features crop year 2020 Strata from Indie Hops.

Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical hops, with notes of passion fruit and mango, as well as just a hint of dank weed. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly dank hops, with strong tropical and lighter citrus and stone fruit notes of passion fruit, mango, grapefruit and apricot, as well as some herbal, spicy weed also coming through. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some passion fruit and mango lingering in the aftertaste. Soft, pillowy mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Considering that this is single-hopped with Strata, the flavor spectrum is quite incredible here. There is that typical, musty passion fruit character in spades, but also some mango and even citrus and stone fruit accents, while a distinct dankness is also present here, as would be expected from Strata. The hop aromatics are quite vibrant, expressive, well-defined and just bursting with tropical goodness and dank weed. Overall, this makes for a terrific Double New England IPA with quite vibrant and varied hop aromatics as well as a great, fluffy mouthfeel that drinks dangerously easy for the ABV, without a hint of booziness.
