In experimenting with a new yeast strain that’s designed to give our hops more space to shine, we couldn’t resist pairing the two most-talked-about varietals in modern beer. So sit back and enjoy what Citra and Mosaic have to give.

3 months old. Can to willibecher.

Look: Pours a very light, foggy yellow with a white head that dissipates after a while leaving just a bit of lacing. No floaters.

Smell: Hoppy with light hints of pineapple and citrus fruits. Slightly herbal.

Taste: A mix of tropical fruits and citrus fruits with a medium sweet, malty backbone. Herbal and resinous notes are also in play.

Feel: Crisp and crushable. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Even though it's quite light in smell and taste, this Pale Ale benefits from a nice combination of high drinkability and fruity sweetness which makes it pair especially well with spicy food. Overall a solid beer without being too fancy or complex.

Pours a cloudy, deep golden coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit and mango. Taste is a good balance of biscuity malt and fruity, slightly herbal and resinous hops, with citrus and tropical notes of grapefruit, tangerine and mango, as well as the merest hint of pine. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some grapefruit and mango lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this makes for a fine Pale Ale, I thought it was a little disappointing coming from Cloudwater, to be honest, who usually do this style incredibly well. Looks like the experiment "with a new yeast strain designed to give our hops more space to shine" backfired spectacularly here if you ask me, with the hops really not standing out all that much and kinda feeling a little washed out. Overall, this makes for an enjoyable, easy-drinking Pale Ale that kinda pales in comparison to most of their other examples of the style though, while body and mouthfeel are also just nice, rather than oustanding.

440ml can. Hazy, very pale orange with a thin head that leaves arcs of lacing. Strong pineapple juice aroma. Tastes of pineapple squash with a moderately dry finish. Mouthfeel is light but soft. An easy-drinking, soft and juicy, but unremarkable APA. Very surprised that it’s DDH.
