Citra's reputation precedes it. Although developed in the 1990s, it was it was only given it's name in 2008 and experienced a rapid rise to prominence in the years following. It's now the most-grown hop in the USA, overtaking Cascade in 2018 and accounting for almost 19% of total acreage in the Pacific Northwest.

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, lime peel and just a hint of papaya coming through as well. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, bitter, slighty floral hops, with strong citrus and lighter tropical and berry notes of grapefruit, orange, lime peel, papaya and gooseberry. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, lime peel and gooseberry lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
When Cloudwater does a single-hopped beer, you just know you're in for a treat and this is certainly no exception. The Citra is really coming through here in all its glory, showing off the whole range of flavor it has to offer with the usual bright and zesty citrus notes, but also some tropical accents and even hints of berry, which is something that I've never really gotten from Citra before. I was also surprised how bitter this turned out and by the presence of a subtle floral undertone as well. Overall, this makes for a terrific single-hopped Pale Ale that shows off Citra's range beautifully and makes for a very interesting and enjoyable drinking experience.
