This barleywine gives aromas of sauvignon blanc, toffee apple esters, with deep sweet cherry cola flavours. A hint of foam banana esters lean into a full bodied strong beer which is full of complexity. It's a thing of beauty.

J.W. Lees have brewed Harvest Ale every year for the past 39 years. It's an honour for us to be able to use their house yeast - a culture that's thousands of generations old - to brew our Barleywine.

Turning our hands to the classics is our way of saying thanks to trailblazing Manchester breweries for the part they played in the rich history of British brewing.

Pours a clear dark amber with fine tan head.

Smell is malty and sweet with notes of raisins, dried fruit, brown bread, muscovado sugar, leather and tobacco.

Taste is rich, malty, sweet and intense. Notes of raisins, golden syrup, brown bread, leather, toffee, brown sugar and dried fruit. Moderate finish and superbly hidden alcohol.

Mouthfeel is full, smooth, pillowy and well carbonated.

Overall, a real belter of a barley wine. Sticks true to the classic English barley wine, but is still unmistakably modern. Masterclass.

440ml can.
L: Copper colour, light haze, one finger of off-white head that reduces to a cap.
S: Marmalade gives way to cinnamon spice and banana. Alcohol is omnipresent.
T: Toffee & barley sugar.
F: Extra rich, super smooth and bracingly hot.
O: An extraordinary complex yet still approachable barleywine.
