This is the first in a new series of beers that explores beyond the new normal. Back in 2016, we helped change expectations in hoppy beer by working outside the box, stepping away from the safety of the familiar, and in this series we’re off for another mooch about. This is a journey for the curious and the adventurous, for individuals in search of new combinations and boundary-blurring hybrids. Join us, and help us find something new, whether that’s the “next big thing” or just something rather lovely.

I had this beer on-tap in a tumbler glass at the brewery in Manchester. The bartender told me it was made with a bière de garde yeast, but it really doesn't fit into any good style category.
Appearance: pale golden hue with a dash of haze and a nice effervescence. Head is a finger of frothy ivory foam.
Smell: sweet malt with a little bit of a vinous note and a hint of tropical fruitiness. There's also just the tiniest hint of funk. An interesting beer. It mostly works.
Taste: a bit sweeter than the aroma, with a little mango character plus also that vinous note. It's definitely different.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I want to like this beer a lot more, and I applaud its inventiveness. But it just doesn't quite 100% work for me.
