This beer style is typically named after the region it is brewed in and since we're on Bridge Street, we thought it was fitting. Before you yell at us, yes, we are aware that authentic Kolsch's are brewed in Germany, but why should they savor all the flavor?! We did our best to keep this beer as traditional as possible and fermented it with a yeast strain from Cologne. The body is made with Pils, Wheat, Vienna and Munich Malts and it is bittered/flavored with Hallertau and Tettnang. At 4.9% a.b.v. it is the perfect spring time beer.

One of the few good things that came out of my brief employment with the Great & Mighty CANmonwealth of Pennsylvania was training in KofP during the Summer of 2015. We were lodged 4 nights a week at Valley Forge Casino & Resort & I repeatedly used the opportunity to take the bus to PHXville in the evenings. I really dig Stable 12 & I look forward to adding this one to The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "Bridge Street Kölsch German-Style Ale"; "Fermented with a yeast strain from Cologne, this beer brings a taste of Germany to our taproom in downtown Phoenixville. Pilsner, Wheat, Vienna and Munich Malts create a balanced body, while Hallertau and Tettnang hops give it a crisp bitterness. At 4.9& ABV, this tasting room staple is perfect for springtime, or anytime."; "From Barn to Brewery"; "Handcrafted and Brewed [in] Phoenixville, PA".
I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I was pleasantly surprised as it foamed up to form two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, bone-white head with modest retention. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, like liquid sunshine in my glass on this dreary day, prompting an impromptu visit from The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus, all clamoring for a taste. 8=O Nose had the scent of honey-drizzled, freshly-baked bread like my maternal grandmother used to make. 8=O
I visited her & PapPap over Memorial Day weekend as he was a WWI vet, but that is a bit of a digression.
Mouthfeel was medium, which was notable since I have had some in the Style that were thin & watery. The taste opened with a doughy breadiness that slowly morphed into a berry-like fruitiness along with a gentle grassiness. Mmm. Man, I really dig something like this when it is well done, as this one was. It was mellow, but not so mellow as to be boring or sleep-inducing. Instead, it was simply a very pleasant drink on a slow afternoon before I begin to prepare for the night shift. Finish was semi-dry to dry, having clearly made good use of the yeast. Mmm. YMMV.

A two finger creamy white head with good retention. The head is leaving lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 3 a straw color/pale straw. Vigorous carbonation bubbles reside within.
The initial aroma of the beer is a low sweet grainy note with hints of apple. Additional aromas are floral, earthy, grass, herbal, and a light cracker note.
The beer has a soft malt character with a touch of sweetness. Additional flavors I detect are floral, apple, earthy, light apple, earthy, and crackers.
The mouthfeel of the beer is light bodied, a medium-plus carbonation, and a medium finish.
This Kolsch is fantastic, spot on for the flavor profile, well done.

Stable 12 Brewing Co. "Bridge Street Kölsch"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 07/20/17..." and sampled on 08/07/17
$2 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA
Look: A hazy, rather than clear for the style, golden body rests beneath a short lived head of bright white. Average lacing.
Smell: Grainy and toasty malt and lightly floral and herbal hops. Pilsner malt is generally expected of the style, and in lesser quantity, but it's pleasant enough. Some yeasty sulphur is a little distracting; and there's no fruitiness although that's certainly OK as well.
Taste: As the aroma suggests, the grainy and toasty malt is a little much for the style but it's OK. It's clean and well balanced by a firm bitterness, and the floral, herbal, and lightly grassy hops round it out and linger in the mostly-dry finish.
Feel: Medium-bodied and gently crisp.
Overall: Not quite a Kolsch-style beer but pleasant enough. One could certainly drink a fair amount on a hot summer day.
