Stable 12 Brewing Co. "One Trick Pony Series #4 [Zythos]"
on tap at the brewery on 1 April 2017
$6 / pint
A lighter pale ale brewed with one variety of hop? Certainly! I should point out, however, that Zythos is not a hop variety, but rather a proprietary blend of hops that are then formed into pellets.
It's a slightly hazy deep gold beneath a creamy head of bright white. The head retention and lacing are both good. The aroma is citrusy with lemon/lime and orange, and perhaps a little grapefruit, pineapple, and pine over a grainy malt base. The flavor follows, as usual. Surprisingly, given that it's got just 40 IBUs, it seems boldly bitter with a very dry finish - at least too much for a pale ale of just 4.9% ABV. Piney in the finish. Medium bodied and crisp.
