My eighth entry in/of New Tying Up Loose Ends Beer Sunday (Week 759) loops us back to Week 718 & gives me CANother opportunity to further The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "New England Style India Pale Ale"; "Special Release"; "This New England style IPA is brewed with lactose sugar, Azacca and Idaho-7 hops."; "35 IBUs"; "From Barn to Brewery"; "Handcrafted and Brewed [in] Phoenixville, PA".
I CANducted some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent to begin a wide-open, heavy-handed C-Line Glug. I was getting tired & since I saw no reason to hold back, I let fly! This resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, foamy, tawny head with excellent retention. Color was a deeply-cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled like something right up my alley - pine, grapefruit citrus & just enough tropical fruit so that it did not smell like I was dating CArNmen Miranda! Mmm. I do not necessarily mind tropical fruit hops, but when they are the sole focus, I lose focus. Mouthfeel was a solidly firm Medium, approaching creaminess, but not quite getting there. The taste was MUCH more to my liking than is generally the case in this style - grapefruit led the way, but was held in check by the sweet tropical fruitiness. Mmm. Finish was dry & bitter, but in a pleasant, restrained way. Following the swallow, I was met with a cool wash of pine resin which lingered. Mmm. Very nice! YMMV.

Pours a hazy straw color with a head that was thicker than one finger. The nose is pine and somewhat yeasty. Citrus is the most prominent flavor note. The finish is patently bitter.

16 oz can poured into a weizen glass.
Appearance
Hazy golden blonde. 1 1/2 fingers of creamy white head. Moderate carbonation.
Nose
Peach syrup, overripe mango, passion fruit, blueberry, lactose, and a weird sweetness that I can't pinpoint.
Taste
Overripe mango, peach syrup, passion fruit, and blueberry. Dank, floral, and earthly. Light lactose sweetness with lingering pine needles.
Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, sticky, crisp, and semi-dry with hardly any bitterness.
Overall
It's nice to see some different hops in the mix. I'm getting pretty tired of the Citra / Mosaic combo everybody's using.

Stable 12 Brewing Co. "Azacca-Ho"
on tap at the brewery on 1 April 2017
$6 / pint
Another IPA from Stable 12 that utilizes pale and Vienna malts, although this one also has flaked oats and lactose. Unlike their Wild West Coast IPA that claims 108 IBUs this one is much softer at just 35, and I think that pays off as a little more sweet malt enhances the tropical fruit flavors that they've derived from Azacca and Idaho-7 hops (hence the name).
It's a very hazy golden in color beneath a bright white head that holds fairly well and leaves some thin spots and splashes of lace behind. The aroma displays grainy malt, lemon/lime, citrus rind, mango, pineapple, soft pine, and leafy earth. As is usually the case, the flavor follows with the addition of some more tropical fruits (orange, papaya, soft ruby grapefruit). The bitterness is nicely balanced and leaves it smooth rather than "rough", "raspy" or overly bitter. It's medium bodied with a moderate, smooth carbonation. Very nicely done.
