We all love the high octane IPAs, but how many pints at 8-9% can you actually have? Sugar Coated Pony Kisses was created in order to fulfill your lupulin jones without sacrificing flavor for a lower a.b.v. This 5.8% ABV ale was made with Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Flaked Oats, Lactose Sugar and Falconer's Flight, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria hops. The culmination is a gentle, yet firm, Sugar Coated Pony Kiss at 55 IBUs.

not bad, solid brew in traditional IPA style (pre-hazy), not a lactose infused brew given the name, just smooth drinking goodness..

A: The beer is hazy pale dark yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a thin head covering the surface, a narrow collar around the edge, and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of tangerine and stone fruit are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of stone fruit along with notes of tangerine and hints of mango. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied, juicy and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This New England-style IPA has a heavy dose of oats to help lighten up the body and keep this very drinkable.

Hazy but not enough citrus or sweetness.

The beer is a pale straw color with a hint of orange and lots of haze. the head is short but last a long while. On the nose, the hops come through strongly with citrusy and grassy notes being pretty equal. It smells remiscent of orange juice. The taste is very unique due to the grain bill. The malt portion comes across of woody almost. The hops, of course, are still very present and complete the sweetness well although they are not too bitter. The grassy citrus notes are still present. The mouthfeel is decadently thick and smooth. The carbonation is good, but could use a bit more foaminess. Overall, this is an unique beer, and a very good one too.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $4.00. Canned on 9/17/2020, so this is 7 1/2 weeks old.

Look: A very hazy, turbid bright yellow pineapple juice color with a thin white head. The beer is not the haziest, but it does have this almost smoothie-like thick-looking body.

Smell: Interesting mixture of aromas. Up front, lots of citrus and dank notes: grapefruit rind and juice, orange zest and juice. On the finish, some fresh cut grassy notes. Secondary notes of lemon, lemon drop candy, and Flintstones vitamins.

Taste: This is nice. It leans toward the juicier side of the NEIPA spectrum, with a pretty mild finish that has a bitterness that is not so strong or lingering. Up front, lots of citrus flavors and juiciness. There is a mildly bitter finish with some citrus pithiness, but it does not stay on the palate for very long. It's tasty, reminds me a lot of lemon drop candies / lemon meringue pie. The lactose sugar does not give a very sweet impression to me, but I think that it has a positive effect on the mouthfeel and the balance of flavors.

Feel: Nice creamy, soft mouthfeel. Appropriately carbonated.

Overall: I like this one. A solid offering that stands well on the merits of it being a very drinkable 5.8% ABV NEIPA. Forget about the lactose sugar; it's there and works well with the beer but it's not the selling point that makes this beer good IMO. This beer is interesting and flavorful, and has a lot of the things that I look for - juiciness, balanced bitterness, flavors that work well together. Very enjoyable!

One of the few good things that came out of my brief employment with the Great & Mighty CANmonwealth of Pennsylvania was training in KofP during the Summer of 2015. We were lodged 4 nights a week at Valley Forge Casino & Resort & I repeatedly used the opportunity to take the bus to PHXville in the evenings. I really dig Stable 12 & I look forward to adding this one to The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Sugar-Coated Pony Kisses India Pale Ale"; "We all love the high octane IPA's, but how many pints at 8-9% can you actually have? I Crack!ed open the vent, but I was unsure of how to proceed since the inCANsion of oats & lactose sugar would seem to indicate an NEIPA. I beCAN with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass, but it quickly became obvious that clarity was out of the question. It foamed up spectacularly to form to-plus fingers of soapy, foamy, rocky, bone-white head that seemed more excited to fall away to wisps. 8=( Color was a murky, turbid Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was pleasantly citrusy with notes of (especially) orange & grapefruit. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was citrusy, subdued in its bitterness and quite easy-drinking. Finish was semi-dry & very pleasant. This was unquestionably an NEIPA & I will be submitting CANother (!) ChANge request as a result. YMMV.

Light sunny yellow in color with a consistent light haze. Poured with a tall, soapy, bright white foam with very good retention. Sharp pineapple aromas with fruity citrus and light malt beneath. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, and a smooth, creamy feel. Flavors are similar to aromas. Citrus and pineapple flavorsĀ  with light fruitiness beneath. Medium light maltiness. Medium hop bitterness in the middle followed by sweet fruity and malty flavors. Finished with tapering bitterness, sweet fruity notes and delayed dryness. Hop bitterness and nicely balances the fruity and malty character, despite the fruity finish. Nice look and feel. Not super complex, but very drinkable, and enjoyable.
