Today, I am CANcentrating on The CANQuest's (tm) problem children. They are those beers who do not know how to behave in (especially) warm/hot weather & decide to test the limits of their aluminum CANtainer. If I CAN identify them in time, I will move them up in the queue of the backlog & throw them into the reefer in the hopes of salvaging it. Other times, I only hear a metallic "TING!" followed by a gushing explosion. 8={} In those cases, the CAN is dumped, rinsed & placed in The CANQuest (tm) Bag o' Shame to be displayed whenever I go for a lecture.
From the CAN: "Could this Boysenberry Gose be a one night stand, or a lifelong commitment to happiness? We will leave the choice to you. Date with Jake is created with real boysenberry and blueberry fruit puree, with a slight sea salt finish and refreshing 4.2% ABV. Make a date with this beer!"; "From Barn to Brewery"; "Handcrafted and Brewed Phoenixville, PA".
I did not enchanter any difficulty in Crack!ing open the vent & given its style + the adjuncts, I went with a heavy-handed C-Line Glug. I got a brief finger of fizzy, foamy, soapy, pinkish head that quickly dissipated into wisps. Color was a hazy Magenta (SRM = N/A). Nose smelled very fruity but I was unsure that I could have identified the fruit adjuncts on my own. Mouthfeel was thin & watery, but that is not unheard of in/from a Gose.
A what?!? This was built as an "American Wild Ale" when "Gose" is right on the label! Change Request forthcoming! I am reviewing it as a Gose.
Boy, was this one tart! I have had some tart Goses in the past, but between the fruit, the wheat malt & the sea salt, this was one puckering little date. It began with a tart fruitiness, still impossible to parse out, then hit with a wash of saltiness. Phew. That'll get the taste buds up and at attention. Finish was tart, dry & highly refreshing on yet another hot, humid Summer's day. Mmm. YMMV.
