Poured into a rocks glass: color is dark brown/near black, head is tan with fine bubbles and presents one finger thick, head lingers well with solid top at least 1/4 inch thick, some lacing on glass sides.
Smell is light but maple notes forward, then some stout roast and coffee notes but more maple heavy.
Taste is maple forward but seems more flavoring than 'maple syrup added to a beer' as its quite strong, stout notes are backing with roast, light cocoa, and espresso; heavy maple detracts from stout base flavor.
Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, low/moderate bitterness; biting lingering presence that is hard to pinpoint but the maple flavoring is notable.
Overall - I want to like maple addition brews but often the maple comes through harsh which can be flavoring component from an artificial or concentrated flavor addition, this one seems to have some flavoring in that style and the base stout is masked or light to begin with.
