This was another beer that picked up at Gary's last week as I hadn't had anything from Brix City in ages and was intrigued by the amount and variety of hops in this. Was it fruity? Exotic? Dank? Slick? Heavy? Somehow, this was all of those and amazingly, made with the same yeast as the beer I just reviewed from 902. Like that brew, that gave this a slightly unfamiliar feel to this as this was incredibly complex and inviting at the same time!
Classic New England IPA pour and look to this as the liquid was a muted goldenrod with plenty of haze to it and a fine, fluffy head that took it's time settling down. Plenty of cloud-like segments of lacing were left behind they got progressively bigger as I worked my way through this. Lots of exotic yeast in the nose, along with a bit of outdoorsy funk, earthiness, and citrus rind in the nose as the taste had tangerine cream, dewy grass, moss, and raw weed entered the fray. This had a nice slickness to it and virtually no carbonation as the flavors were allowed to mesh and mingle with the end result being something quite deep but oddly inviting at the same time.
Of course, there's booze here and enough of it that it complemented this beer's breadth and depth without overshadowing them. Nothing was written on the bottom of the can as there were a few big clumps of dark sediment that I had to swirl out of the bottom of my pint glass right before I finished this off. This was a sensory splash but not what I expected when I saw this can and the bright colors on the label. This was a quality beer that was worth taking the time to savor, as the Double Dry Hopping made this formidable collection of hops and flavors quite easy to enjoy!
