Our rich, luscious, Imperial Stout base aged 6 months in hand-selected, freshly emptied, Bourbon Barrels from A. Smith Bowman Distillery and conditioned on pounds of gooey Maple and luscious Vanilla. New to 2022, this variant was inspired by the famous Vermont dessert of the same name and exhibits notes of ribbons of sweet maple swirled between layers of vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, charred oak, and caramel.

2022 release. Reviewed the day after release date. Poured into a stout glass at 58°. It pours nearly ink black with a half finger of creamy, medium mocha-colored head and a thick coating of lacing. There's lots of maple on the nose along with vanilla, earthy char, and the faint smell of bourbon. I've usually concerned about maple being overly sweet but no worries here. In fact, there is a strong, oaky, burnt, bitter, char and bakers chocolate presence up front. The maple notes are delicate and provide a nice balance to the bitterness. The barrel influence is strong but not distracting. The flavors are very complimentary. This Stout has a moderately thick and creamy mouth feel with appropriate carbonation, and I like the fact that it's 10% ABV and not massive since it comes in a 22 oz. bottle. Overall, I always enjoy the annual Silk City release. If anything, this variant gave me pause because of the maple. But it's a stellar American Imperial Stout. While I think Brix City can be inconsistent at times, they really nail the Silk City Stouts.
