Inspired by a popular ice cream flavor that’s hotly debated, Silk City (2024) BBA Mint Chocolate Chip is our rich, luscious, Imperial Stout base aged 6 months in hand-selected, freshly emptied, Bourbon Barrels from A. Smith Bowman Distillery and conditioned on Cocoa Nibs and Thin Mint cookies. Silk City Mint Chocolate Chip opens up with a strong aroma of booze, burnt brown sugar, and vanilla with hints of maple and mint. On tasting, we're finding flavors of double chocolate chip cookies, sweet caramel, and dark roast coffee followed by hints of mint and heavy booze with a medium bitter finish.

Reviewed exactly one month after 2024 bottle release. Poured into a Silk City Stout glass at 61° The color is a very dark walnut - nearly black - and the dark mocha head fizzled away almost immediately. Its nose is primarily dark chocolate and bourbon with modest notes of mint candy, along with tobacco smoke and char. The proffered mint is more apparent in the taste - especially as I swish it around in my mouth. The chocolate is strong and rich and even after a month in the bottle the barrel influence is strong. It's fairly hot for the ABV. It finishes with a good, roasty bitterness. As with the other 2024 variants, the adjuncts are handled well - the mint is present but not front and center. The mouth feel is similar to the other variants. It's not quite a viscous as in past years and it drinks big for the 10.% ABV. Overall, this variant is enjoyable but don't sit on it too long.
