Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark black with light brown head. It looked a bit thin on the pour, but maybe I'm just getting used to the thick and creamy stouts from the US. The nose is charred wood, rum, black licorice, roasted malts, molasses, and some coconut. Dark chocolate as well. Really nice.
The taste is intense. Huge roasty malts - like a classic RIS. Coffee grounds, tobacco, charred wood, molasses, licorice, plum, raisin, and more smoke! I think I can taste the rum, but not sure if I would have picked it out had I not known this was a rum barrel stout. I like the classic roasty stouts, so this is up my alley.
Mouthfeel is definitely thicker than it looked. The aftertaste is bitter chocolate and wood. Overall, a great stout.
