This is a large space! The bar is in the NW corner and probably seats at least a dozen. There are a ton of tables, a gaming area, a swag shop and a second level for events or super busy days/nights.

It is an older industrial building and they have done a nice job of refurbishing and decorating.

Our servers were friendly and quick for refills but not hovering.

They offer a large variety of beers/styles. They have a regular tap list and then a smaller list of rotating/seasonal offerings. They have all the major styles covered and what we had was enjoyable.

The food was good. The only quirk is that you can only have your burgers medium well or well done... So I opted for a very good Rueben.

Well worth a stop if you are passing through the Driftless area of SW Wisconsin!

Solid beer selection and a solid up and coming brewery. Food options simple and good. Pizza is real good. The wicked sap is brewed with tree sap instead of water...amazing. Must try brewery in a small town!!

Located in the quaint town of Hillsboro, and named after an original pre-prohibition brewery that operated until 1918, then after prohibition until the early 40's. An old original porcelain enamel sign hangs above the bar, as a unique piece of local history. The space is on a corner with high ceilings and an exposed brick wall. Various beer signs new and old dot the walls. You might see some Amish folks passing by the window like we did.

The bartender greeted us and chatted for a bit as it was pretty quiet. She offered samples of the beers and let us know what was most popular.

The beers were pretty good, highlights were the IPL, Schwarzbier, and Oktoberfest. They also had a decent Czech pils called Bohemian Club, a nod to the retro beer and to Hillsboro, the Czech capital of WI.

Food was ok, the pretzel sticks and beer cheese were a perfect pairing with the lagers. Menu had some creative pizzas made from scratch. We were headed to the Driftless Cafe in Viroqua, so we ate light here.

Overall this is a worthwhile stop if heading down the back roads or looking for an extended escape from the Dells area. If you're a fan of strange old americana, check out the Painted Forest in nearby Valton. It's a short 15 min. drive to see a massive folk art mural that covers the interior of a former woodsmen's fraternal order lodge. (open seasonally, on weekend afternoons)

2019: Hillsboro has moved to a larger production brewery with a new taproom in August 2019.

A very nice brewery located in a renovated building in downtown Hillsboro. Good selection of their beers as well as some others on tap. Tried their Hillsboro Pale Ale and Snappy IPA. Found both to be very good. Had an excellent pizza and service was very good. Would recommend a visit if in the area.
