Basque 23/7 2018. 47,3 cl can bought on Via Rail’s the Canadian. Dark and golden can telling me this is a English Amber Ale.
Pours hazy golden amber with a small white head. Settles as a thin, almost transparent, patchy layer of foam drifting around. No lacing.
Aroma is sweet and lightly roasted. Caramel, butter, roasted malts, nuts, sour notes hiding in the background.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, lively, almost fizzy texture.
Flavor is rather sweet. Followed by a slightly more modest tart bitterness. Aftertaste is sour, tart berries.
An Amber ale with a tart twist.

Amber color and nearly clear. Decent and lasting head. Excellent blanketing lace throughout the tasting.
The nose has an off smell similar to dish water. Missing is the caramel aroma I’m used to with this style.
There’s a darker toasted malt flavor belying the color. Light and dry caramel flavor. The body leans richer but the carbonation is also elevated. There’s plenty of bittering black pepper-like hop throughout the tasting. The finish brings back the caramel making a well-balanced moderate aftertaste.
