Clear dark amber color. Poured a short head of mixed size bubbles which collapsed to a thin skiff in less than a minute. Moderate to low rate of fine bubbles rising from the bottom and side of the glass. Left a faint veil of lace.
Mostly a medium roasted malt and caramel smell with some light gingerbread spice. Swirling the glass kicked up more gingerbread mixed with light barnyard funk. The gingerbread and barnyard seem to alternate for dominance. Mild yeast scent joining in after warming in the glass for a few minutes.
Starts with an indistinct yeast, fruit (perhaps some fig), and malt flavor blend, which quickly gives way to mostly a medium roast malt flavor that grows as it warms up. The malt has some of the dark character of gingerbread, but there is no ginger in the flavor. Slightly sweet and some bitters start to show through towards the end. The aftertaste is a quick pulse of barnyard followed by mostly bitters and a hint of malt.
Light tongue tingling as it turns into a coarse foam. Medium body.
Much stronger malt than a typical APA. This is starting to head in the direction of a milder Belgian dubbel.

On tap at Guu, Vancouver.
Pale rust with rim of taupe. 3.75
Autumn leaf and orange rind. 3.75
Thread of crusty crystal, then more orange rind and leafy tannic end. 4
Thin, crisp, just past light. 3.5
C hops and clean, but has a weak middle and is watery. Works well enough as a Swiss Army knife good beer, but lacking as an APA. You can do better, Russell. 3.75
