650ml bottle - hmmmmm, maybe it's still autumn out in Lotusland, but here it's day 2 of snowfall. And really, 'pallet' when you mean 'palate'?

This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves a bit of smoke tendril lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of grainy and bready caramel malt, roasted pumpkin flesh, faint earthy spice, and some very tame leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, kind of acrid pumpkin notes, some cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spiciness, faint earthy yeast, and more understated herbal, weedy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its frolicking frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, as the metallic-seeming spice quotient looms just a little too large here. It finishes trending dry, the toasted gourd and spices winning the lingering day.

Overall - this is a pleasant enough version of the style, where you actually get the proclaimed adjunct flavours, in spades. Perhaps a tad astringent at times, in that it lacks sufficient sweetness, but that's a minor quibble. Worth checking out, especially if you can still see the fallen leaves in your yard.
