Clear dark red-brown color. Poured a tall head which collapsed in less than a minute into a patchy skiff. Left no lacing. Too dark to see any carbonation.
Smells sweet with a bit of barnyard that clears away. Very light touch of dark roasted malt scents. Something light and fruity. Smells just a bit like some coke has been mixed in. Swirling the glass brings out a bit more barnyard again for a moment. There is a light chocolate. Then the scent fades back to the sweet fruit.
Rather sweet, partially covering up a slightly over-roasted malt. There is a hint of yeast and something a bit funky. The impression is that this is aiming towards a sweet soy sauce. Some bitters come in near the end. The aftertaste is bitter and burned malts. Something in the aftertaste is a bit like a solvent.
Quickly foams past the creamy stage and forms a light foam with larger bubbles. There is a bit of a burn along with the aftertaste - more of a pepper spice than alcohol. Medium body.
The flavor doesn't live up to the promise of the smell. This is not very complex on the palate. Most of the flavor comes from two things I don't really like in beer: sugar and burned malt.
