It's almost that time of year again, when we all dust off our Lederhosen and prepare our bodies to eat copious amounts of Bratwurst and drink Oktoberfest Lagers till we drop. This Festbier will get you just that much closer to Munich, with an all German malt bill lending a rich bready body giving way to a clean Lager finish.

Clear red-copper color. Poured a medium sized head that collapsed to a skiff after a couple of minutes. Low flow of tiny sized bubbles from the bottom of the glass. Left a few dots of lacing.
Light scent of caramel malt. Very light barnyard. Something is a bit sharp and tickling my nose. Swirling the glass kicked up a stronger barnyard with a little more caramel.
The flavor starts with a light malt which grows much stronger after a few seconds. There is a distinct flavor of grain husks, i.e. bran. A little bit of mildly sweet caramel. Mild-medium bitters grow in. There is a bit of barnyard showing up in the flavor with a very light orange citrus. The aftertaste is more of the caramel with a stronger barnyard. The bitters make a stronger showing and continue for a while after.
Light, coarse textured foam takes a while to develop. Light-medium body. A bit of astringency.
I appreciate the attempt at a Märzen, but I thought it suffered from an excess of barnyard. The caramel malt was well executed for the style; perhaps a little lighter than produced by other breweries. IBU is on the high end of the range; it could be dropped back a bit.
