Hop harvest season is upon us once again and we have decided to do something special this year to showcase locally grown fresh hops. A crisp table strength rice lager with the addition of 110 lbs of fresh hop Saaz from Myrtle Meadows Farm located in the beautiful Pemberton Valley.

Clear pale-yellow straw color. Poured a short head that quickly collapsed into larger bubbles and then into a thin skiff in half a minute. Low flow of tiny bubbles from the bottom of the glass. No lacing.

Faint rice crispie and cottage cheese scents. Some bran. Swirling the glass kicked up a very light barnyard and more of the bran scent.

Moderate light bitters with some vegetal hops flavor. A rice crispie flavor starts light and then gets stronger along with stronger bitters as it warms up. A bran flavor is hard to pick out at first, but it grows stronger later. The aftertaste is a quick taste of cottage cheese which is replaced by the rice and then the bitters take over.

Slowly forms a small amount of foam. Thin, light body.

Interesting variation on a Lager. The rice is very distinct. The only scent and flavor I didn't care for was the cottage cheese.
