Mt.Begbie Brewing 'Cold Smoke Porter' @ 6.5% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $5.80
A-pour is a light cola brown to a murky brown in the glass with a small beige head leaving a fine spotty lace along the pint
S-English porter smell , malty
T-semi sweet start , smokey swallow
MF-ok carbonation , medium body , bit thin really
Ov-just an ok beer & porter

translucent brown; licorice, root beer, cola, ; nice soft rich good long finish, no alcohol burn, not very complex but well balanced. I don't get an smokiness; medium bitter backbone; medium full bodied.

L: Dark brown and has a small white head that dissapesred quickly.
S: smokey with a slight malt sweetness to it.
T: Smokeyness with again that slight sweet malt taste and a very minor bitterness from the hops.
F: Full body mouth feel with a lighter amount of carbination.
O: A pretty good beer from these guys, I really like smokey beers so this one is as good as the rest.

650ml bottle - apparently the title is a reference to ski hill snow powder hanging in the air - so very wintry!
This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, gamely foamy, and somewhat bubbly tan head, which leaves some sexy and thick swaths of fresh terrain lace around the glass as it lazily blows off.
It smells of gritty and meaty smoked caramel malt, sugary, if still bittersweet chocolate, indistinct dark orchard fruit, free-agent wet ash, a subtle earthy nuttiness, and plain weedy, leafy, and herbal hop notes. The taste is bready, kind of doughy roasted caramel malt, a reduced smoked salmon and generic meaty astringency, muddled vanilla and cocoa drink powder, some plucky black stone fruitiness, and more almost balancing leafy, herbal, and grassy hoppiness.
The bubbles are fairly sedate in their generally supportive frothiness, the body a sturdy medium weight, and more or less smooth, the still heady smoke doing us all a solid by keeping its acrid tendrils to itself. It finishes on the sweet side, but moderated well enough by fruit and smoke to make this one worthy of seeing through to the end.
Overall, a very approachable and engaging smoked porter, the roastiness complex and easy to get lost in. Would pair well with any manner of meat product, even those Chimichangas I've got waiting in the wings for me right now - Salud! Oh, right, Mt. Begbie is all about the German styles - well, I gotta say, they've nailed it here, joining a little bit of Bamberg with the London of old.
