16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned in late 2019. Pours dense dark brown/black color with a i-2 finger dense and rocky tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, honey, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of dark fruits, roasted nuts, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, honey, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, honey, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of dark fruits, roasted nuts, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, honey, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread/crust, dark fruits, roasted nuts, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, honey, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/tannins. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 12% after the finish, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged pastry stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, honey, cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smoth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Fantastic soft/silky feel; not overly bitter/tannic. Fantastic balanced rich malts, honey, cocoa nibs, vanilla and barrel presence/integration. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example.
