This very limited release Barrel Aged Kindling Imperial Stout is a classically styled Imperial Stout aged in Double Gold medal winning Laird of Fintry Whisky barrels from Okanagan Spirits. Flavours of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel complement the oaked whisky all set atop perfect full-bodied sweetness. Double mashed with barley, oats and wheat. It features the 2021 Kindling, which won Gold at the 2022 Canadian Brewing Awards.

Appearance - Pours a jet black with two fingers of frothy mocha head.

Smell - Oak whisky barrels, earthy and leafy hops, raisin, plum, fig, roasted malts, floral notes, earthy yeast, cocoa/chocolate, cinnamon.

Taste - Starts with earthy/leafy/floral hops, followed by the flavours from the whisky barrel, cocoa, roasted malts, and cinnamon. Finishes with earthy yeast. Dark fruits are sort of there, but mostly dominated by barrel and cinnamon.

Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with lingering aftertaste of the barrel and cinnamon.

Overall - A superb imperial stout from Cannery. This version takes their initial Kindling stout and makes it a true stand out. The whiskey barrel is not as potent as in other barrel aged brews I've sampled which makes this a truly dangerous sipper. The ABV is well hidden in this one. I like how the cinnamon takes precedence in this one. A truly unique brew and a must try.
