A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2018. Purchased a while back from a local offie. The label mentions that this IPA is hopped five times with English, Australian and American hops.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A hazy coppery-brown colour with low carbonation. Produces a tiny head that dissipates almost immediately. Unpromising.
S: Aroma of crisp, resinous hops with hints of pine, mild weed, a touch of citrus, caramel malt, grain, ale yeast, earthiness and a whiff of diacetyl in the background. OK though nothing special.
T: Tastes of bitter resinous hops with notes of pine, weed, citrus peel, grain, caramel malt, ale yeast, earthiness and stewed hops. Quite dry, followed by a substantial hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with very soft carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body for the style. Quite astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter hops, pine/weed, stewed leaves, caramel malt, ale yeast and earthiness.
O: So-so; not an amazing beer. Seriously subpar looks - the head retention needs work. Aroma and flavour are a lacklustre blend of resinous hops, stewed leaves, caramel malt and earthy yeast. Insubstantial body. Possibly a bit old, but I also had the impression when pouring it that the bottle might be bad. One to resample in the future.
