May 21st, 2015 - I'm not sure what the "California" here refers to, but I'm seeing the honey in this honey ale from Duck Foot. But it's fresh fruits that rule the aroma, mostly strawberry and cherry rinds, with shadows of sweet watermelon in the background. There's also a bit of clover honey on the top, though I couldn't say if that note comes especially from the honey as an ingredient or just the yeast. A slight touch of sourness greets the tongue on the sip and expands to a lovely clarity. The short aftertaste of crystal malt is a nice crisp conclusion, and each sip after that re-introduces rich cereal grain bill. Another impressive brew from a relatively new brewery!

Mild beer that doesn't have a whole lot of up front honey, but had a mild
Nice honey aftertaste. Not as in your face as even a corporate honey ale, like J&B's, but a mild sweet aftertaste, that is nice. Look, nothing mild blowing, but if you're young and looking to change up from a Bud Light or whatnot, this is a nice beer. If your an adult and know beer, you ain't impressed. This ain't a criticism of the beer though, as much as the style. It's a'ight.

Quick take: With a straight honey color, there’s not as much honey flavor in this beer (Then again, the yeasts love the sweet stuff!), but it is nicely balanced and slightly sweet. It is very mild with a short aftertaste.
